The Blooming Bangalow Palm

A few weeks ago, I posted this photo in the Weekly Photo Challenge : Threshold

Focal Length 53.9

Taking a step back, it was a fallen frond that first caught my eye.  These two pictures put the opening flower into the general context of the tree.

It occurred to me that it would be interesting to track the development of the ‘flower’ as it opened, subject only to attacks by hungry birds! I am fortunate in being able to use a zoom lens from our deck to capture these shots. Here is the result.

Seventeen days after seeing the threshold, the flower is fully open. With a steady hand, I attempted to to get a close up of the ‘seeds’

I am dedicating this post to two fellow bloggers, whose work I enjoy. These ladies have been kind enough to share hints, when asked, about various tricks for better looking photographic posts. So a big ‘thank you’ to Amy over at Photography Journal Blog and Suze at Fraulein Wanderlust

Weekly Photo Challenge : Letters

DSC04563

There are two ‘boxes’ for letters in our neighbourhood. The letters on the outside of one define its obvious use, even for those whose first language is not English. The letters on the outside of the other, if indeed they are letters, convey nothing of its purpose.

Other entries to this week’s challenge, issued by Cheri Lucas Rowlands, will be found here.

Weekly Photo Challenge : On Top

This week, the challenge issued by Sara Rosso is entitled “On top”. “It can be a feeling, a perspective, or a physical location”.

My mind immediately flew to this work of art near the Salzburg Cathedral. We were unable to ascertain the story, so we let our imagination run wild.

There is no doubt about the position of Marksburg Castle, towering above the Rhine near Koblenz.

I always feel on top of the world when I can enjoy a view like this:  Hong Kong from Victoria Peak.
